Concrete Garage Floor
Question
Several low spots in my concrete garage floor fill up with rainwater
falling off my car in
Winter. How can I smooth them out?
Answer
If you level the floor, where would the water go? I think your best
bet is to wait for the car to dry before putting it in the garage. That
sounds a bit crass…but seriously, where indeed will the water go?
It is unlikely to flow water under the door if the door closes properly,
and it is illegal to put holes or drains in the floor, for fear of contamination
of ground water by gasoline, oil and other pollutants. If you really,
really want to smooth out the floor, you can cut out the depressions
and put in new concrete level with an old surface. Or, put a bonding
agent on the floor and add a minimum of 2 inches to the entire floor.
