Ants
QUESTION
I live in a townhouse built right on a slab, so the floor of my
first-floor living space is literally less than a foot from the outside
ground level. Thus, during the spring and summer months, I tend to have an
infestation of small dark ants. They also show up during the winter months
if a small morsel of food drops to the floor undetected. Ant traps seem to
work somewhat, but is there a more permanent solution to eliminating the
problem? I have a cat, so I would like a solution that is not h armful to
animals if possible.
ANSWER
The closeness of the ground to your house is one of the reasons you
have the ants. Keep up with the ant traps and cups, and replace them every
month or so. Anything else applied to the inside of the house would be a
hazard to the cat. In pleasant weather, try caulking the space between
siding and concrete foundation. Use an adhesive caulk, Every little bit will
help.
