Question
My Kohler toilet is 13 years old, with a crack in the tank. The
crack is tight, and does not drip, but seeps a little.
Answer
You can wait until the seepage gets to be too much, then you can glue
the tank or put in a new toilet. Try applying a layer of Goop on the
crack inside and outside the tank. Wait a day and repeat. Plumber's
epoxy also might work.

Question
In one of my bathrooms, I have to hold the handle down to make the toilet
flush. What is wrong and how can I fix it?
Answer
Nothing much is wrong, and you can fix it. The handle is not lifting
the flapper or ball that covers the outlet in the tank high enough,
and if not held up it flops back to close the outlet. To fix this, open
the tank top and shorten the beaded chain that goes from the handle
arm to the flapper. This will bring the flapper high enough so it won't
flop down until the tank empties and the flush is completed.
