Siding / Window / Roof Installation QUESTION ANSWER For the rest, the order is: roof, then replacement windows and finally, siding shingles. If you install whole windows, frames and all, they would go in second as well. But generally, if the casing (frames) and sill are intact, there is no need for whole windows. And, to back up a little, you can install replacement windows any time, starting now. Incidentally, there is no better choice for siding than white cedar shingles. They will weather nicely without treatment. Expose them 5 inches to the weather and they are unlikely to curl or warp. Forty years later, your grandchildren can put up new ones.
