Question
I had my roof replaced just recently and my contract called to furnish
and install two electric power vents. I was in my attic the other day
and I noticed that they weren't hooked up. I called the roofing contractor
and he told me that they don't hook them up. What should I do?
Answer
This is a common problem when a electric power vent is to be installed.
Most code agencies will not allow an electric power vent to be installed
by a roofing contractor. A power vent can only be installed by a licensed
electrician. The roofing contractor should have explained this to you
at the time you contracted him to do the roof. There is not much you
can do about this know, but I do suggest that you write him a letter
requesting that he change his policy and advise future clients that
he must explaine this procedure. Also send a copy to your State Licensing
Contractors Board, The Better Business Bureau and your State and local
Consumer Protection Agency.
