Frame & Shingle Concrete Block Building
Question
I have a one-story concrete block building on a concrete slab. I would
like to frame it out and shingle the outside. Is this feasible? I have
the ram nails to fasten the strapping.
Answer
Sure is. You could apply vertical or horizontal strapping and the apply
plywood sheathing, and then finish with any kind of wood siding you
like. If you put insulation between the strapping for extra heat retention,
horizontal will work best because the bottom strapping will keep critters
from getting inside the insulation. Make sure there is plenty of roof
overhang so that the siding does not interfere with the drip edge or
gutters or any other part of the roof. Do not bring the strapping and
siding to close to the ground. There should be at least 8 inches of
foundation below the siding.
