Fan Installation
QUESTION
I’d like to put in a whole-house fan, but there is no place to put
the fan because the upstairs rooms have cathedral ceilings, so there is
no attic. Is there any place for such a fan?
ANSWER
Normally the fan would go in the attic floor. If there are any
crawl spaces on either side of the rooms, you could put a fan in one of
the walls leading to the crawl space, and make sure there are enough
vents in the crawl space to let the forced air escape.
But it might also be possible to put the fan in the roof, so the fan can pull air through windows and directly outdoors. I am confident that any HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) company will have a big waterproof and weatherproof cover for such a fan.
