STUFFING ELECTRICAL BOX QUESTION: I’ve stuffed insulation in about half the electrical boxes in my house. You recently said that doing that can cause a fire. Should I remove the insulation? I’d rather pay a little more in heating costs than burn my hose down. ANSWER: Yes, you should remove the insulation. And just to be safe, turn the power off when you do so. There is a better way to insulate the outlet and switch boxes: Buy foam covers that fit over the outlets and switches, just under the regular plates. You also can buy plastic safety plus that fit into unused outlets. These stop the flow of cold air and prevent prying little fingers from fiddling with the outlets. If
