Not To Heat The House Question: If I choose not to heat the house this winter, and drain all the water and take other precautions, will the furniture and the walls and other inside materials withstand the continued cold? I am especially concerned about the horsehair plaster walls, and furniture. Will the veneer of the furniture come off? Anything else to worry about? Answer: There should be no concern over the veneer on the furniture because it is moisture that causes the veneer to loosen. But there will be very little moisture to be a problem in the cold house, because cold air holds less moisture. Do not cover furniture with waterproof tarps, because this can trap moisture. The same goes for horsehair plaster; there is not enough moisture in the plaster to cause a problem. Return to the "Crusader Q&A Topics" page! If
