NEW TOILET QUESTION: We had a toilet replaced and now there is a slight movement. We’ve since, from another source, that shims should have been used, due to the new style of toilet being installed over an older tile floor. Are these shims the standard wooden ones, or is there a particular one sold for this purpose? ANSWER: There is nothing quite so discombobulating as a rocking toilet, or one that slopes backward, forward or sideways. Yes, shims are standard procedure when installing a toilet, if necessary. Use plastic or metal shims because of the damp environment. If
