FLOOR DECAY QUESTION: In my newly occupied old house, the bathroom had decay on the floor. Water leaked through the tile and sub floor, and decayed a portion 4-by-6inch joist. We took up the floors and dug out a section 15 inches long, 1 ½ inches deep and a half-inch wide. Can that gap be filled with an epoxy wood filler to maintain it integrity? ANSWER: I think it can. The decayed area is a small part of the beam, and filling it will make it whole again. Before you fill it, drench it with bleach and then rinse it to destroy any decay organisms. Rinsing is necessary because nothing is compatible with bleach. Use a Min-wax epoxy wood filler, but first treat it with a wood hardener, also made by Min-wax. If
